It has happened to all of us at some point and the truth is this There are few things more annoying than to find that the internet has suddenly stopped working. It’s a big problem and it can get worse if we don’t know what to do. Fortunately, in most cases, this is a situation that we can solve in a simple way, and it usually doesn’t take more than a few minutes.
I know internet connection issues are one of the headaches the most common and what bothers you the most, That’s why I decided to prepare this guide, in which I will share with you five very easy solutions that can be put into practice, which are also very effective in solving errors and mistakes that can leave you without the Internet.
To make this guide as useful as possible for you, I decided to organize a list of solutions starting with the most effective and easy to applyand escalate to those that are effective, but putting them into practice is a bit more complicated. If one doesn’t work for you, I recommend trying another one, although it’s best to check that the service is working and that the problem isn’t with your ISP before you touch anything.
As always if you have any questions you can leave it in the comments and I will help you solve it. That said, I invite you to get comfortable because we’re getting started.
In fact, this is one of the solutions more basic and at the same time more “miraculous” which exist. I have experienced rare situations in this sense, but I will tell you one that particularly impressed me and fully alerted me to the importance of this solution.
A few years ago, when I had an internet connection with a defunct ONO, I started running into problems playing online. At first it was just small latency fluctuations that were annoying, but I was able to play without too many headaches. Piece by piece the latency worsened and eventually made the experience terrible.
I had internet, I could actually surf relatively well, but Latency in games was a pain. I called ONO and they told me everything was fine, so I started trying a thousand things from downloading updated drivers for the network card to updating the BIOS, reinstalling games, checking the router settings and I was about to reinstall Windows 7 which was the OS I was using at the time.
Before I did this I remembered I hadn’t tried rebooting the router and was on the verge of not doing it because I thought after doing so many things it was impossible for something so simple to be effective. how wrong i was I shut down the PC, rebooted the router, let it charge, turned the PC back on and everything worked great.
Note that you need to restart the router Turn it off and unplug it for at least a minute. It is advisable to do this with the PC turned off, because this eliminates any conflict that may have settled in the router’s memory, and something similar can happen with our computer’s memory.
This step is especially useful in those cases where you have an internet connection that, while working, has significant issues that ultimately make your experience not good. Cache can cause conflicts with various websites and online services, especially if there have been updates that don’t mesh well with cached data from previous versions.
Flush the DNS cache It is very easy and can be completed in a very short time., so we strongly recommend using this step if restarting your router didn’t work for you, or if it only had a partial effect and you’re still having problems connecting to the Internet. These are the steps we need to take to clear the cache:
I know some people find it a little scary to mess around with the Windows command console, but in this case, you don’t have to worry about anything. This command is completely safe and it works perfectly. I haven’t had to use it much as a normal router reboot has worked for me in most cases, but I can confirm that it came in very handy on two occasions.
Over the years and improvements made in both operating systems and real-time antivirus, the impact of malware has decreased, but it is still a serious problem which can leave us without internet. I recall a particularly interesting case that struck me a few years ago involving a family member who was barely computer literate.
He got carried away by a window that told him he could get a free ride. He followed all the steps required of him to complete the registration process and access his prize and finally won a huge malware infection that made your computer almost unusable. He was able to boot into Windows and at first everything seemed normal, but it slowed down and only allowed him to access a web page that displayed an ad for medication.
Since I didn’t have anything important to save on my PC, I decided to format the drive and do a clean install of Windows. Everything went back to normal and he learned a very valuable lesson. This is an extreme case, but I wanted to share it with you so you know malware can too It can completely or partially limit your internet connection.
If the previous two steps did not work for you, I recommend that you perform a security scan for viruses and other types of malware. Adware that focuses on displaying advertisements can also have a negative impact on your Internet connection. In infections are not too serious, the analysis is usually sufficient remove the infections and resume normal use of the device.
It wouldn’t be the first time that the internet connection stopped working due to a problem in the configuration or even a cable that over time came loose and remained only partially connectedcausing it to no longer communicate properly with the device it was connected to.
In this case, the first thing we need to do is Make sure all cables are well connected to the routerand that illuminated status lights indicate proper operation. If all this is fine, we need to make sure that the PC and devices connected to the router with a cable are also well connected.
If we use PLC devices or Wi-Fi repeaters, we have to make sure they are still well connected and connected to the router, and that they work normally. We can do this by looking at the status lights, accessing the interface of these devices or using dedicated apps if any are available.
When everything above is fine, but we still don’t have internet, it’s a good idea to look in the network settings and check if everything is fine. It is very simple, we just need to enter the router interface by typing “192.168.0.1” (or “192.168.1.1” in some cases) in your browser’s address bar. We enter our access data and go to “WLAN” or “LAN” section.depending on whether we are using a wireless or wired connection.
Even on the router interface we can check for intruders on our Wi-Fi network, which can consume all of our bandwidth. This can cause us to have no internet or our connection to work very poorly. If we encounter intruders we can throw it away very easilywe’ll just have to change Password our Wi-Fi, something we can do in the “WLAN” section.
If none of the above worked for you and you still don’t have a smooth internet, there are two more steps that can help you. Update the firmware The router is one of them, and it’s usually not difficult because these types of updates:
These updates usually include bug fixes and various improvements which can ultimately help us solve important problems. On the other hand, it also forces the router itself to do a big reboot internally and this can have a positive effect on resolving conflicts that would still be there after a normal router reboot.
As a last resort we have Windows Troubleshooter, an alternative that still causes some rejection today because it has a bad reputation. Some believe that it is a completely useless tool, but I can confirm that it has worked for me on several occasions. In fact, I remember one in particular where I was quite upset because I was running out of options and the end of this tool saved me.
To use the troubleshooter just follow these steps:
