The Chavismo-controlled Commission on Internal Policy of the Venezuelan Parliament is preparing a bill against “traitors to the country” recently proposed by the President of the Legislative Assembly, the ruling party, Jorge Rodriguez.

Deputy Diosdado Cabello, president of this commission, said this Wednesday that the team is “already working” on the development of this project, based, as he explained, on: in Article 130 of the Constitution, which establishes the “duty to honor and defend the country” and “to protect the sovereignty, citizenship, territorial integrity, self-determination and interests of the nation.”

In his weekly program “With a Hammer,” broadcast on the state channel VTV, the first vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (UPVV) noted that: Earlier, he met with other members of the Domestic Policy Commission review “treason jurisprudence” in other countries.

Cabello, considered the number two of Chavismo, did not provide further details about the progress of this project or when they plan to present it.

In March, Rodriguez proposed creating a law under which “crimes against sovereignty” would be “severely punished,” according to a parliamentary note that said the President of the Legislative Assembly mentioned:to “the position of statelessness taken by representatives of the far right” against a referendum held in December on a dispute with Guyana over the Essequibo territory.

He also stated that “traitors” – without specifying names– “called for invasions, violence” and “the assassination of the President of the Republic”“Nicolas Maduro.

Authorities say they have deactivated a series of plots aimed at attacking the “higher leadership” of Chavismo and create a “climate of political violence” ahead of the July 28 presidential election in which Maduro will seek his second re-election.

On Tuesday, the government presented to the Legislative Assembly a “draft law against fascism, neo-fascism and similar expressions‘, prepared on behalf of the head of state.
