Alphabet-owned Google is considering charging for premium features of its generative artificial intelligence (AI) search engine.
This was reported by Reuters, Ukrinform reported.
Google is considering various options, including integrating AI-powered search features into premium subscription services that already provide access to the new Gemini assistant in Gmail and Docs, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the company’s plans.
The move marks the first time Google has introduced paid access for any of its core products at a time when it is trying to gain a foothold in the fast-moving AI space.
At the same time, it is emphasized that the traditional Google search engine will remain free, and ads will continue to appear next to the search results, even for subscribers.
“We are not working on ad-free search and are not considering such a possibility. As we have done many times before, we will continue to create new premium features and services to expand our Google subscription offerings,” he said.
According to Ukrinform’s report, the American company Apple is negotiating with Google about the integration of its most advanced model based on artificial intelligence (AI) called Gemini into its products.
