State Department US condemns rape Vienna Convention after invasion of the Mexican embassy in Quito by Ecuadorian police.

Likewise, the US government called on both countries to “resolve their differences in accordance with international standards.”

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said:

The United States condemns any violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and takes seriously the obligations of countries under international law to respect the integrity of diplomatic missions.

He added that Mexico and Ecuador are critical partners of the United States, so he noted that we attach great importance to our relationships with both countries.

“We urge the two countries to resolve their differences in accordance with international standards,” the State Department said in a statement.

The United States took 24 hours to rule on this breach of diplomatic protocol.

This Friday evening, Ecuadorian police raided the Mexican Embassy in Quito to arrest Jorge Glas, who had received political asylum from the Mexican government.

The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations speaks about this.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian embassy in Mexico City has been under guard since Friday evening, when Mexico severed diplomatic relations with the South American country, taking over violations of international law, in particular the Vienna Convention.

Article 22 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations states that “the premises of missions are inviolable. Agents of the receiving State may not enter them except with the consent of the head of the mission.”

In a brief statement, Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena said that “given the flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the injuries suffered by Mexican diplomatic personnel in Ecuador, Mexico announces the immediate severance of diplomatic relations with Ecuador.” .

The actions of the government of Daniel Noboa caused condemnation from a number of Latin American countries. (EFE)
