Last Thursday, Google notified Google Play Services testers of the availability of its updated device search network on Android, and it went live today. Now the Find My Device service allows you to find a lost smartphone even if the Internet connection is lost, and other Android devices will also help with this, which will determine its approximate location based on other signals. On Google Pixel 8, this feature is even more useful; It works even when the phone is turned off.
Starting in May, Bluetooth trackers Chipolo and Pebblebee will connect to the network, helping locate wallets, keys and other lost items. By the end of the year, compatible Bluetooth trackers will be released by Motorola, Jio and Eufy. As in iOS, access to bookmarks can be shared with other users. The launch of the network was delayed for a long time due to possible security issues, but Google and Apple found a solution. Dave Kleidemacher, Android’s vice president of security and privacy, assured that everything is safe:
“Our research has shown that lost things often lie dormant. If you’ve left your keys in a coffee shop, they’re likely lying on the table where you’re drinking coffee. By placing limits on the speed and accuracy of updating device information, we’re making the web less useful for finding lost luggage and undermining your ability to track your movements in real time.” .”
JBL and Sony headphones will reportedly receive special software updates so they can be tracked in Find My Device. The updated network supports devices running Android 9 and later OS versions. The network will initially operate only in the United States and Canada, then its action will expand all over the world.
