Google continues to promote Chrome as an enterprise browser with the introduction of Chrome Enterprise Premium, which adds more security features to the browser.

Browsers have become a crucial link in business operations. Not only are they our portal to the Internet, they also play a fundamental role in security. Employees can access company data, files and cloud applications via a browser. Therefore, browser security should not be taken lightly. During Cloud Next, Google is expanding its Chrome Enterprise offering and focusing even more on providing a secure browsing experience.

Google introduced Chrome Enterprise a few years ago. This version of the Chrome browser won’t look any different to users, but behind the scenes, companies will have much more control over what’s possible and what’s not. Chrome doesn’t always offer the best experience when it comes to privacy, and with the Enterprise offering, Google wants to reassure companies about their employees’ use of the browser.

Safe browsing

With Chrome Enterprise Premium, Google is adding new security features to the business version of the browser. The focus is on four domains:

• Corporate Control: Enforce policies, manage software updates and enhancements in accordance with corporate policies, and support for RDP, SCP, SSH, and other TCP protocols.
• Security reporting: Support for event and device reporting for enterprise-wide visibility, with integration options with other Google and third-party security solutions.
• Contextual access controls: Scalable web application controls, continuous zero trust access to SaaS and web-based apps with contextual access controls, and reducing data exfiltration risk for approved and unapproved applications.
• Threat and data protection: Content scanning to prevent data loss, malware and phishing, dynamic URL filtering and website categorization.

Chrome Enterprise is completely free. In the IT world, the word “premium” usually means something tied to a subscription, but Google didn’t say anything in the announcement about any costs associated with the new feature.

Paid extension for Workspace

Want to add additional security to Google Workspace apps? This is possible with a new paid extension for the Business Suite. This allows IT administrators to classify and protect files containing sensitive information. The add-on costs ten dollars per month per user.
