The northern marsupial mole (Notoryctes caurinus) lives in the deserted areas of the northwestern part of the state of Western Australia and is so rare that researchers still do not know how many such animals remain on the planet.
Recently, local rangers encountered a northern marsupial mole while working in the Great Sand Desert, located about 1,500 kilometers from the city of Perth. I even managed to take a photo of it.
Northern marsupial moles are no larger than the size of a human palm, have thick and soft hair, a short conical tail, and fin-like claws. Researchers state that these animals do not have eyes because they spend most of their lives in sand dunes.
Today, science knows very little about northern marsupial moles: the new sighting was the second in the last six months.
