Google’s flagship language model, Gemini Pro, makes its debut in Android Studio, a development environment for building applications in Android.
Google LLC announced in a blog post that it will integrate its Gemini Pro language model into Android Studio. The current Coding assistant Studio Bot is based on the PaLM 2-l model and now makes way for Google’s latest language model, Gemini Pro. Once you’ve signed in and activated the language model, you’re ready to start using Gemini in Studio Bot.
Gemini Pro in Studio Bot
Android Studio is unique Integrated development environment (IDE) where developers can create apps for Android based on code. Last year Google added this AI coding assistant Studio Bot complements Android Studio, which is based on the PaLM 2 model.
Gemini in Android Studio is able to answer general or project-specific questions about Android. For example, a developer can ask the bot to remove duplicate records from a data set. In addition, according to Google, the bot can also take on more complex tasks, such as rewriting code files in a new programming language or generating entire app interface sections.
Gemini 1.5 Pro?
The Android Studio chatbot is now based on Gemini 1.0 Pro. Meanwhile, a new iteration of the model has been described, namely Gemini 1.5 Pro. So there is a possibility that this latest version will be rolled out to Studio Bot in the future.
Currently, Gemini is only available after you log in and activate. Additionally, you don’t need to submit your code context to use most features. Gemini’s chat responses in Android Studio are based on conversation history. You can update this yourself in Android Studio via “Project Level Settings”.
