Microsoft is investing almost $3 billion in AI development projects in Japan

American technology company Microsoft announced that it will invest $2.9 billion in artificial intelligence development projects in Japan over the next two years, and this will be the company’s largest investment in the country.

Microsoft President Brad Smith announced this during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who is visiting the United States. Ukrinform reported, citing NHK.

Plans include expanding facilities in Tokyo and Osaka to increase the capacity of data centers critical for productive AI. It is planned to introduce graphics processors or advanced artificial intelligence semiconductors.

The company also plans to establish a research base in Tokyo to increase productivity and solve Japan’s socio-economic problems with artificial intelligence and robotics.

In addition, Microsoft aims to train qualified personnel in the field of artificial intelligence and will provide the training of 3 million permanent and temporary employees in the next three years.

The company announced that it will provide AI training programs for women and professional training for AI developers.

Microsoft is also expected to strengthen cooperation with the Japanese government on cybersecurity, including information sharing.

As reported by Ukrinform, Microsoft has appointed Pawan Davuluri as the new head of its Windows and Surface divisions. From now on, the two teams will work together under his leadership.
