Former US President Donald Trump rejected in this Wednesday Arizona Supreme Court decision from give effect to a law passed in 1864 banning abortion. in all cases, except when the life of the mother is in danger, punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

Asked by the press whether the Arizona Supreme Court had gone “too far” with the measure, Trump, who is expected to represent the GOP in the November presidential election, responded, “Yes, we have,” according to reports by America’s Network NBK.

“Yes they have. We are talking about the rights of the state. This will be fixed. “I’m confident that the governor and everyone else will fix this within reason,” Trump said from the tarmac at the Atlanta airport, where he will later hold a fundraiser for his campaign.

The former president took the opportunity to highlight his position on abortion and recalled that states that it is the government of each state of the country that individually sets the conditions abortion rights in each respective U.S. territory.

The Arizona Supreme Court on Tuesday confirmed a law passed in 1864 that prohibits abortion and punishes it with up to five years in prison in almost all cases.. The White House quickly issued a statement classifying the rule as “cruel” and accusing Republicans of pushing their “extreme agenda.”

Position on abortion is one of the ways in which the Democratic Party has been able to gain groundespecially after the Republican-dominated U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in May 2022, giving states free rein to restrict and even ban abortion.

Trump has in recent weeks tried to neutralize what has recently became one of the biggest Republican shortcomingsand in fact, he views his position on abortion as a determining factor in his choice of vice-presidential candidate who will seek re-election in the November election.
