The Ecuadorian government has accused Mexico and its President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of interfering in its internal affairs and violating international law by hosting and providing asylum

The Ecuadorian government has accused Mexico and its President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of interfering in its internal affairs and violating international law by hosting and providing asylum to a person persecuted by justice.

Ambassador Mauricio Montalvo Samaniego justified the armed raid on the Mexican embassy in Quito as “preventing the escape of a criminal.”

In his speech to the Permanent Council, the representative of Ecuador said that Mexico had violated the principles of non-interference in internal affairs and non-use of embassies in a manner inconsistent with the Vienna Convention.

He spoke in favor of a peaceful resolution of disputes.

In his speech, he showed a five-minute video of Lopez Obrador’s remarks about his country, which he called offensive.

He reiterated that it is illegal to provide asylum to people who are in reasonable condition or have already been convicted by a court.

He questioned the international organization for not condemning Mexico for its interventionist statements and for using the embassy to receive a person wanted by justice.
