Security specialist Eset is launching a security solution for small businesses. Ease of use is the focus.

Eset starts the Eset Small Business Securit (ESBS) solution for small businesses and home offices. The solution must be simple but powerful, allowing easy management of five to a maximum of twenty devices. Eset is specifically aimed at non-IT specialists to get started with ESBS.

ESBS includes Eset Home: This allows small organizations to monitor the status of device security. The portal is accessible via the cloud. Endpoint protection is at the heart of the offering. This also includes protection against ransomware.

The solution also includes:

• Password management: Eset provides a password manager for ESBS customers.
• Antispam: The solution includes email protection with an anti-malware in your Mailcient.
• Theft protection: You can track, locate and block devices if necessary.
• Secure banking: ESBS secures transactions and protects against keyloggers.
• Anti-phishing: The solution prevents you from being scammed via fake websites.
• VPNNote: You can surf unlimitedly using a VPN, which prevents tracking. Please note: This is a privacy implementation and not a secure VPN to your office environment.
• Encryption: With ESBS you can encrypt data from your company.
• Server protection: The suite also lets you protect devices running Windows Server.

The tool also works on mobile devices and administrators can receive security alerts via Eset’s app.

Newly packaged home protection

Eset describes ESBS as an important step in protecting home offices and small businesses. We like to take this with a grain of salt: ESBS essentially looks like a business-focused rebranding of Eset’s home offering, without any major innovations. Additionally, many of the core features, including antivirus and encryption, are built into Windows.

For the entry-level subscription, where you buy protection for five devices for one year, Eset charges 169.99 euros (including VAT). That’s pretty expensive if you know, for example, that Microsoft’s Defender for Business costs around 40 euros per year per user (including VAT), including five devices.

ESBS protection is more comprehensive, but the question is whether all small organizations find it desirable to route their traffic through, for example, an Eset VPN. As already mentioned, Endpoint Protection is built into Windows by default and the quality is sufficient for small businesses, so you don’t need to make any additional investments for it anyway.
