Soon We’ve seen the value of Twitter verified as a digital asset plummet, even more than the social network itself has experienced since Elon Musk got his hands on it. While he’s not the only one, I personally feel like he’s one of the clearest advocates of what Musk’s leadership meant with the service, which, while it’s always had its weak points, seems undeniably currently in permanent exploration of the bottom of the table .

how do you remember In its day, Twitter verification was something quite valued in the context of the social network. It could only be obtained if a number of conditions were met, and the demand for it was such that its managers had to suspend it more than once. Like the rest of Twitter’s leadership before Musk, it also had weaknesses, but in general tick the blue next to the username was something that gave the account credibility.

Of course, that all changed when (in one of his first ventures as a social network owner) Musk decided that offering verification to anyone willing to pay for it was a good idea. And so began the blue check debacle., with impersonation having more than significant effects on some sufferers, and with Twitter Blue users who, despite being interested in what this subscription offered, did not want the verified one to appear on their accounts. And so we come to the summer of last year, when Twitter had no choice but to give in to the demand of said users and allow them to hide it.

However, it seems that taking this measure may not have been very popular, as it amounts to de facto acknowledging the degradation of something they intended to market, and nothing else (despite trying to sell it as democratizing verification). So, to a surprising extent, Twitter will stop allowing Twitter Blue users to hide a blue verified checkwhich users began to draw attention to on the social network, as you can see in tweet about this paragraph.

When you view the Twitter Premium Subscription information page, we see that it has been (clumsily) edited recently. So currently (as of the publication of this article) it shows a link that should lead to the section that has been removed. You can check it yourself if you want. If you have access current versionyou will see that in the «FAQ» section the penultimate link with the text «Can I remove the blue tick from my account? Why would my blue tick be removed?«, which should lead to a section on the same page, no longer works. However, if you check snapshot of the same taken over by the Archive 5th Aprilyou’ll see that it leads to a section, now deleted, that provides information about this feature, and what’s more, it even states that «We will continue to develop this feature to improve it«. An interesting way to improve it, of course…

I understand that Twitter management is not happy about people giving up the new verified, but this is their own fault, so this measure sounds more like child tantrum than to serious and justifiable action taken by functioning adults. Or, to put it another way, another day on Elon Musk’s Twitter.
