Police led by Spain have arrested a gang that was allegedly involved in fraud. $686.41 million victims 35 countries in fraud related to the use of cannabis plants for medical purposes.
The group created a marketing system and went to international cannabis fairs to convince victims to invest in the system, the Spanish National Police said in a statement.
The operation was performed using Europol and police forces five other countries.
Nine suspects, who have not been identified, were arrested on April 11 on suspicion of fraud in Spain, UK, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Italy and Dominican Republic.

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), which was involved in the operation, said 180,000 people had invested in JuicyFields, which it described as a “notorious and elaborate Ponzi scheme”.
The advertising campaign to promote the scam featured luxury cars, hotel parties and music videos, and took victims to legal cannabis farms that were involved in the scam, police said.
