Compatible PCs with an 11th Gen Intel chip and a specific Intel SST driver have not been able to update to Windows 11 for 29 months.

With the launch of Windows 11 at the end of 2021, Microsoft released a strict list of system requirements. However, on some PCs with a compatible 11th generation Intel processor, the update from Windows 10 to Windows 11 has not been possible for 29 months, according to Microsoft.

The problem lies in the Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver. Microsoft: “Only devices with an 11th Generation Intel Core processor and Intel SST driver version 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152 are affected by this issue.”

More than two years later, the problem has been resolved. By updating the Intel SST drivers to 10.30.00.5714 and newer or 10.29.00.5714 and newer, you can get the free upgrade to Windows 11.

Users experiencing this issue will automatically receive an Intel SST driver update through Windows Update in the coming days. 48 hours after the automatic installation, you will receive a pop-up from Microsoft informing you that an upgrade to Windows 11 is finally possible.
