At Motorola it can be a little more when it comes to the processing of a smartphone. Choose from options like wood, vegan leather or suede on the new Edge 50 devices.
Motorola today announced three new devices for the Benelux market: Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Ultra and Edge 50 Fusion. Lots of new features and improvements, but it’s the interfaces that catch the eye. You can refine some models with wood, vegan leather or vegan suede. Great, as long as you don’t put a case over your phone, of course.
The three devices come with Android 14. The only thing Motorola doesn’t say a word about is the update policy of the devices. While Samsung and Google have made a statement with 7 years of security updates and 7 years of OS updates, we suspect the number here is lower. We have contacted Motorola for more information.
The new top model from Motorola is called Ultra and is equipped with the latest gadgets: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. It’s difficult to get better for a flagship today. There is space for three cameras on the back: 50 MP (f/2.0) wide angle, 50 MP (f/1.6, 1/1.3 inch sensor) main camera and 64 MP (f/2.4) 3x optical zoom via periscope. Every camera, except the wide-angle version, has optical image stabilization.
With its 6.7-inch screen (OLED, 144 Hz), the phone is rather large. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is waterproof to IP68 and has a 4,500 mAh battery on board. The device supports WiFi 7 if you have compatible hardware at home or in the office.
Fast charging is supported with up to 125 watts wired or 50 watts wirelessly. As a finish you can choose between wood, dark blue (vegan leather) and orange (vegan leather). The device will be available in one version (16 GB/1 TB) from the end of May and costs 999 euros including VAT.
The device, which is just below the ultra-top model, looks almost the same on the outside, but has to make compromises in some areas. The Motorola Ege 50 Pro, for example, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The cameras differ greatly with a 10MP 3x optical zoom and a 13MP wide-angle camera. The main camera has the same number of megapixels (50), but has a smaller sensor (1/1.55 inch).
The specifications regarding fast charging and battery capacity are identical to the Ultra variant. Here too, you can choose between three colors and designs: black (vegan leather), mother-of-pearl or lavender (vegan leather).
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is only available in the 16 GB/512 GB configuration and costs 699 euros including VAT. The device is available from today.
If you want to try out decent specifications without paying top dollar, you can choose the Fusion variant. Another step down in specs: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The 6.7-inch screen is the same size, but the peak brightness is slightly lower (2,500 nits versus 1,600 nits). The resolution is also slightly lower (1,220 x 2,712 pixels vs. 1,080 x 2,400 pixels).
The biggest difference is on the back of the cameras. Gone is the optical zoom camera. The wide-angle camera is the same as the Pro variant. The main camera (50 MP, f/1.9) has optical image stabilization.
There is no wireless charging here, but rather fast charging with up to 68 watts. The battery is the largest of the three models: 5,000 mAh.
The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is available in three different variants:
