Motorola introduces the Moto Edge 50

As we told you a week ago, Today, Motorola introduced the Moto Edge 50 family, the new generation we’ve been waiting for for some time, which will take over the Edge M40, introduced more than a year ago. And as we also assumed thanks to the leaks, it consists of three members, with which the Lenovo subsidiary appeals to a more than wide audience, from the mid-range to the high-end. Here are the models Motorola announced today:

  • Motorola Moto Edge 50 Ultra.
  • Motorola Moto Edge 50 Pro.
  • Motorola Moto Edge 50 Fusion.

We will see this in more detail below, but to give you a better idea of what I mean about the breadth of the family in terms of the market segments it is aimed at, we will find that their prices range from the starting versions of each model, from 399 to 999 euros. And yes, in case you were wondering, we have prices in Euros as all three members of the family will be available on the market. More precisely, Motorola states that the Edge 50 Pro will be available almost immediately, while the Ultra and Fusion models, already present on its site, will arrive later.

It’s not common for a technology company to use its name flagship also identify the middle or middle range, but personally it seems to me a smart move if the most basic of the family models knows how to live up to the top of the range, with logical differences . The closest examples, albeit with a higher starting price, of good management in this sense are the iPhone SE (529 euros) and the Google Pixel 7a (509 euros).

So without further ado, let’s see what Motorola has to offer us with each of the models of this new generation.

Motorola introduces the Moto Edge 50

Moto Edge 50 Ultra

We’ll start with the top of the range, the flagship of this generation, and the first thing we’ll see on it is his pOLED screen, with a diagonal of 6.67 inches without borders (the brand’s preference for curved screens is more than well known) with a SuperHD resolution (1220 x 2712 in an aspect ratio of 20.01:9 and a density of 444 dpi), with a refresh rate of up to 144 hertz and HDR10+ support. To ensure that both what we see on the screen and what we capture with the camera, the Moto Edge 50 Ultra is the first smartphone to have double Pantone validation (Pantone Validated and Pantone SkinTone Validated) for both the screen and the camera.

Already inside and as we expected, we see that its electronics are built around a SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 which is complemented by up to 16 gigabytes of RAM and up to a terabyte of storage. In terms of connectivity, it will offer Dual 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, UWB and a USB-C 3.1 port. This whole set is powered by a 4500 milliamp battery with fast charging up to 125 watts and wireless fast charging that can reach 50 watts. According to the manufacturer, its autonomy can reach 30 hours when fully charged.

One of the strengths of this Moto Edge 50 Ultra is found in its main cameracomposed of three members, a 50-megapixel wide-angle main lens F/1.6, 64-megapixel telephoto lens F/2.4 with 3x optical zoom along with what Motorola calls 100x Super Zoom and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a no. F/2.0. On the front, we find a wide-angle camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels.

Moto Edge 50 Pro

In between, although still in the high range, we find the Edge 50 Pro, which integrates a screen similar to the one we saw on the Ultra modeli.e. a 6.67-inch borderless pOLED panel with SuperHD resolution (1,220 x 2,712 pixels, 20.01:9 aspect ratio and 444 ppi density), 144 hertz, 2,000 nit peak brightness and HDR 10+ certification along with double verification (screen and camera) from Pantone.

A big difference between the two models is marked by their interior, in which we see that the Motorola opted for the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Soc, a fairly competent integrated device, which, of course, cannot compete in terms of performance with its older brother, the 8 Gen 3. We do not know what versions will arrive in Spain, but configurations with up to 12 gigabytes of RAM and up to 512 gigabytes of storage have been presented. Its connectivity design consists of Dual 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, BlueTooth 5.4, NFC and a USB-C port 3 As for the battery, it again fully corresponds to the Moto Edge 50 Ultra: 4,500 milliamps with fast charging 125 / 50. watts via cable and wirelessly.

For its main camera, Motorola opted for a triple sensor-target configurationheaded by a wide-angle (24mm equivalent) 50 megapixel with no F/1.4, complemented by a 10-megapixel telephoto lens F/2.0 and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide (16mm equivalent) with f/2.2. The front camera has a wide-angle (21mm equivalent) f/1.9 lens that uses a 50-megapixel sensor.

Moto Edge 50 Fusion

Last but not least, we find the Edge 50 Fusion, the most economical variant of this generation, which, yes, ranks in the middle class, with a relatively solvent design for this market segment, in the offer offered by Motorola. managed to gain a good reputation.

In this case we also find 6.7-inch pOLED panel, although its resolution and density are lower than the Ultra and Pro models, with 1,080 x 2,400 pixels (maintaining the 20:9 aspect ratio, as well as a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz), 393 pixels per inch, or To ensure correct color reproduction, this display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 space and is capable of reaching a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits.

Inside we find a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC, i.e. the “vitaminized” version of the predecessor, which can be found in the 50 Pro. Again, we do not know which versions of those announced today will reach us, but we have seen up to 256 gigabytes of storage. and up to 12 gigabytes of RAM. In the connectivity section we find Dual 5G, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and a USB-C port. The set is powered by a 5,000 milliamp battery with 68-watt fast charging.

Its main chamber consists of two elements50 megapixel wide angle with no F/1.9 and 13-megapixel ultra-wide with no F/2.2. On the front we find a 32-megapixel wide-angle sensor with a number F/2.5.

Motorcycle AI

As expected, the Moto Edge 50 shared the spotlight in this presentation Moto AI, Motorola’s own implementation of artificial intelligence-based featuresin further confirmation of the extraordinary importance this type of technology has gained between 2023 and so far in 2024.

As we’ve seen from other manufacturers, much of the catalog of AI-based features that debut with the Moto Edge 50 focuses on the processing and post-processing of images and videos captured by their cameras. In addition, in this sense, Motorola is also focusing on the future arrival of some functions based on the artificial intelligence of Google Photos to its own terminals, which will happen in May. However, we don’t know if the company is referring to their recently announced release by Google or if the two companies have reached some kind of agreement so that Motorola users can enjoy the magical editor without restrictions.

Of course, it’s not all picture and sound, Motorola has confirmed that there will be AI-based features in relation to many other aspects of the smartphone, so it can be expected that it aims to offer an experience similar to that provided. from Samsung with Galaxy AI, or which is one of the strengths of Google Pixel.
