AMD has expanded its catalog with the Ryzen 8000 Pro, a new generation of processors for laptops and desktops that are based on Zen 4 architecture at the CPU leveland they come with NPU to accelerate AI and with GPU based architecture Radeon RDNA 3, a very complete configuration that makes them a very versatile solution.
Ryzen 8000 Pro for notebooks have configurations that start with 6 cores and 12 threads and go up to 8 cores and 16 threads. They use a Monolithic core design, 16 MB L3 cache and they have 1 MB of L2 cache per core, which means that 6-core models have 6 MB of L2 and 8-core models have 8 MB of L2.
This generation is divided into two versions, “HS” modelswhich prioritize performance and have a TDP that can reach up to 54 watts, and “U” models, which have low consumption and configurable TDP between 15 and 28 watts. Not all of them have an integrated NPU, but most have this component, which, as I told you at the beginning, is designed to speed up AI workloads.
The desktop Ryzen 8000 Pro also has a monolithic core design, meaning the CPU, NPU and GPU are integrated into the same silicon chip. They are available in various configurations from 4 cores and 8 threads to 8 cores and 16 threadsthey have 16 MB of L3 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache per core and have a configurable TDP that starts at 35 watts and goes up to 65 watts.
Not all models have an NPU and for the avoidance of doubt I am sharing with you an explanatory table that also differentiates the specific configurations of each of the Ryzen 8000 Pro for desktops as I did previously for the notebook models. In this case half of the models do not have NPU, and these are concentrated in the medium and low range. The mentioned NPU is the solution XDNA, which offers 16 TOP performancewhich makes it the most powerful APU in its class and surpasses the solution that Intel uses in its Meteor Lake, as it offers 11 TOP performance.
The new Ryzen 8000 Pro is up to 69% faster and uses up to 55% less power than Intel Core Ultra processors in Teams calls, according to tests conducted by AMD, and They have up to 72% more performance and consume up to 84% less in tasks related to artificial intelligence thanks to the integrated NPU.
In the attached graph, we can see some comparative results between Intel Core Ultra 7-155H and Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U in different AI workloads. AMD solutions it has 4% to 85% more performance depending on the specific workloadand provides the best results in image generation and content creation.
Taking a more general approach focusing on such important aspects as responsiveness, multitasking performance, CPU performance, productivity, graphics performance, content creation and all of the above together, we see that on average the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U It is 30% faster than the Intel Core Ultra 7-165U. In terms of autonomy, the AMD solution also wins.
Ryzen 8000 Pro has valuable technologies focused on security and management and is compatible with the latest wireless standards, i.e. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. To increase security include Microsoft Pluto chip, They have the technology AMD Memory Guard and adopt a multi-layered protection approach that also includes the AMD Shadow Stack.
AMD has confirmed that these new processors They are now available in the OEM marketso it won’t be long before we see the first pre-built devices and systems equipped with these solutions, although at the moment there are no details about their possible arrival in the retail channel.
