These are generally good times for Telegram. The instant messaging service created by the Durov brothers, with which they intended to take on the almighty WhatsApp, remains on a constant path of growth, which, while generally developing at a more or less constant pace, usually benefits (and this is completely understandable, in no way about criticizing the problems faced by its competitors from time to time, whether technical, reputational, etc.

Service she is not exempt from having problems of her own as well. What’s more, as you may remember, it hit the front pages of all the media here a few weeks ago when the Spanish National Court, in a rather ill-calculated move, issued an order to block access to Telegram in Spain in response to complaints from Mediaset, Antena 3 , Movistar and Egeda. Fortunately, and after seeing the reaction that emerged, and following the advice of those familiar with the service and the potential impact of the blockade, the judge reversed course and suspended the blocking order.

Interestingly, if it was any other instant messaging service faced with this situation, it would lead to exactly what it indicated at the beginning, ie. many users are looking for another one to jump toand Telegram would certainly be the choice, as its user community is totally committed to proselytizing (I’ve practiced it myself on more than one occasion).

As a result of this constant growth rate Pavel Durov thinks that Telegram will reach 1 billion users in a year, as we can read in ReadWrite, a forecast that may seem a bit bold, considering that data from the beginning of this year indicated 800 million users. However, if we look at Priori Data’s graph, which you can see above this paragraph, this would not be the first time that its annual growth has seen a huge jump. Of course, it is no less true that, according to the same data, the growth from 740 to 800 million took two years.

Be that as it may, There are many reasons to give Telegram a chance, although it’s true that Meta has hit the accelerator lately, making WhatsApp add new features and improve existing ones at a fairly fast pace. In my case, as I said before, I use it daily and whenever one of my contacts jumps on it, I start using Telegram as my main communication tool with that person.
