Connected vehicles, also called smart cars, are revolutionizing mobility by offering safer and more efficient driving. Connected to the Internet, these vehicles exchange data with other devices and systems in real time, improving safety and efficiency on the roads. In Colombia, more than 28,000 cars are connected to Onstar, and as part of World Internet of Things Month, Chevrolet is highlighting five benefits of having a connected car:

1. Connectivity: Browsing via high-speed internet and accessing various infotainment features from the car is possible thanks to connectivity. OnStar is joining this revolution by offering a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot in its vehicles, allowing you to connect up to 7 devices simultaneously. This guarantees users an internet experience superior to that of a mobile phone, thanks to the vehicle’s two longer-range, higher-intensity antennas that provide coverage even in areas where the mobile phone has no signal.

2. Improved security: According to the national bulletin of the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV), from January to March 2024, more than 1,400 people died in traffic accidents in Colombia. Against this backdrop, OnStar offers intelligent assistance for more responsible driving. Chevrolet’s Intelligent Driver system provides useful information about driving style, such as the amount of hard braking and acceleration, providing proactive advice and warnings to improve the user’s driving experience.

The technology solution facilitates notifications in the event of an emergency or accident. With such a sensor, the vehicle’s built-in sensors automatically switch a specialized command 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to send assistance to the location where the vehicle is located, even if the user cannot request it themselves. 3. Predictive and diagnostic maintenance: This proactive approach helps you identify and correct potential problems before they become serious, ensuring optimal vehicle performance and improving road safety.

OnStar allows you to remotely diagnose key vehicle systems such as accurate fuel level, tire pressure, oil life, odometer, transmission system, brakes, fuel efficiency and more. There is also the option to schedule preventative maintenance, which will be activated via an alert to keep the vehicle in optimal condition. If inspection is necessary, it is easier to make an appointment at the brand’s authorized workshops.

4. Remote commands: Another valuable attribute of connected vehicles are remote commands that the user can activate from their mobile phone or smartwatch. These accesses allow passengers greater control of the vehicle and improve safety and comfort, even when the vehicle is not occupied by a driver. Over the past 12 months, Chevrolet customers in the country have used more than 413,000 remote commands from the myChevrolet app, including vehicle location, opening and closing doors, turning the vehicle on and off, horns and horns, reflecting the strong acceptance of this new technology in the market.
