As we wrote earlier, the popular Airbnb service for short-term rental housing has stopped working with citizens of Russia and Belarus since April 4 and has stopped working in these countries. It turns out that now the service not only cancels the reservation, but also does not refund the money spent on the prepayment to the citizens of these countries.
Russians paying for housing began to receive advance notice from the service, which reported that it was impossible to return the money “due to banking restrictions in force in the region.” Instead, a “continuous booking bonus” is promised. This is similar to complex trolling, as the service itself closes the opportunity to book accommodation for the same users for an unknown period of time.
This caused a real hysteria among the Russians. Reviews of the Airbnb app on Google Play include a number of complaints about alleged theft and fraud. At the time of writing, Airbnb’s Google Play rating has dropped to 1.6.
