Recently, the media wrote about the release of the beta version of the digital content store AltStore PAL, which is an alternative to the App Store. It has now been announced that the platform has been officially launched in the European Union and is available to residents.
Note that to interact with AltStore PAL you will need to sign up for a paid subscription worth €1.50 per year. In this way, developers plan to cover the costs associated with paying Apple’s Core Technology Fee (CTF). Before installing AltStore PAL, the user is asked several times to confirm that they want to install the app due to App Store restrictions.
After installing the third-party store, the user has access to two programs from developer Riley Testut. It is a Delta emulator that allows you to play games for the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced and Nintendo DS, as well as the Clip clipboard manager. The Delta app also hit the App Store this week and can be downloaded from outside the EU. PAL Delta is available for free download on AltStore, but you will need to pay a €1 contribution to Patreon for Clip.
Interestingly, AltStore PAL is nothing new. The truth is that AltStore for iOS has been around since 2019, but installing it on an iPhone required some manipulations related to gaining a privileged level of access on the device. Now, thanks to the changing legislation of the European Union, the store is officially opened in the region and everyone can interact with it. The site is open to third party products. Unlike the official App Store, AltStore assumes that developers will use their own servers and computing power to ensure the functionality of their products.
