Is Microsoft Copilot Pro worth the 22 euros per month subscription?? Or is the free version enough?
Last year, Microsoft launched Bing Chat, which was later renamed Copilot. A new payment tier soon followed with Microsoft Copilot Pro, which launched in Belgium last month for 22 euros per month. What is the difference between the free version of Copilot and Copilot Pro? And is this difference worth 22 euros per month?
Let’s start where it all began. Microsoft’s Bing Chat, which later became Copilot, is a free AI assistant that helps users with their daily problems. You can find it as a service in Microsoft’s Edge. To answer various questions: Copilot is essentially based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo, but will move to GPT-3.5 during off-peak times.
Additionally, the free version of Copilot can also generate images based on a standard Copilot prompt. Microsoft is making OpenAI’s DALL-E-3 model available to Copilot users for free, but for a limited number of fifteen boosts per day.
Microsoft recently introduced Copilot Pro, a paid tier on top of Microsoft Copilot. This AI assistant helps users to work faster, more creatively and efficiently and is primarily aimed at business customers. Copilot Pro provides priority access to OpenAI’s GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo and also works with DALL-E-3 for image generation. Unlike Copilot, the Pro version offers a hundred boosts per day. Additionally, Microsoft Copilot Pro has integration with Microsoft 365 for apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. This only applies to users who have a personal or shared Microsoft 365 subscription.
Unlike Copilot, Copilot Pro allows you to create custom GPT chatbots tailored to specific use cases. This allows you to automate recurring tasks without having to type a new, long prompt every time. With Copilot, the GPT builder is limited to five custom GPTs.
Microsoft Copilot costs 22 euros per month, but offers a free trial period of thirty days through the mobile application to try out the additional functions.
If we compare the features of Copilot and Copilot Pro, some differences stand out. Both AI assistants use OpenAI’s large language models, although Copilot uses this at a lower level.
co-pilot | Copilot Pro | |
Language model | GPT-3.5 (free GPT-4 Turbo off-peak) | GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo |
GPT builder | Maximum of 5 custom GPTs | No maximum for custom GPTs |
Microsoft 365 integration | NO | In select apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote |
Generate images | 15 boosts per day | 100 boosts per day |
Price | Free | 22 euros per month |
Copilot Pro offers priority access to GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo, offers integration with some Microsoft 365 apps, and can create images with a hundred boosts per day. In addition, Copilot Pro is faster than the free Copilot version. Of course it depends on the context, because the free copilot will get you a long way. Do you value this accelerated and improved performance? Then Copilot Pro can offer added value for you and your company.
In addition to Copilot and Copilot Pro, Microsoft offers a third part of its AI offering: Copilot for Microsoft 365. Copilot Pro is not included by default in the Microsoft 365 subscription, for which Microsoft offers a monthly subscription of 28.10 euros per user per month. The difference is that Copilot for Microsoft 365 is intended exclusively for business customers and requires a Microsoft 365 Business license.
From April 1st there will also be the new Copilot for Security, an AI assistant for security teams.
