Google Chat now works with Slack and Microsoft Teams

Google and Mio are working together to enable interoperability between different messaging platforms.

The first signs of Google Chat interoperability with Slack and Teams were announced in beta in August last year. Now, Mio announced in a blog post that it will enable seamless collaboration between Google Chat and messaging platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Slack. Users can now send messages to colleagues on different platforms. To bridge the gap between Google Workspace and Microsoft Teams, a Mio license is required.

Chat interoperability

Many organizations use different communication platforms that previously could not communicate with each other. This often resulted in missed messages or communication silos that resulted in a lot of communication being lost.

With Google Chat, you can now chat in Slack and Microsoft Teams without having to switch apps. Features such as secure file sharing, editing and deleting messages, emojis, GIFs, comments and message threads are also supported across all platforms.

Mio license

Mio closes the gap between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. A Mio license is therefore required for the different messaging platforms to work together. The Google Mio partnership provides cross-platform chat interoperability between Google Chat and Microsoft Teams, Slack, Webex and Zoom Team Chat.

Although Google has opened this feature to anyone with Workspace, it currently only works for businesses with a Workspace subscription.
