A rumor suggests that Sony is considering bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox

Lately, we’ve seen the idea of exclusive video games lose steam, especially in the Xbox ecosystem. But will we see the reverse process, PlayStation games coming to Xbox? According to the rumor they are spreading podcast xbox era, Sony could be considering bringing Helldivers 2 to Microsoft’s console and/or to the Game Pass service.

According to the above podcastthe possibility of Sony bringing some of its games to Xbox would stem from the fact that Jim Ryan announced a few months ago that he was stepping down as CEO of PlayStation, although his decision did not take place until April 1st of this month. 2024. His place is now taken by Hiroki Totoki, but only temporarily until the Japanese-born giant finds a permanent replacement for Jim Ryan.

The following was heard on XboxEra about Sony’s possible turnaround: “We know that PlayStation has a new CEO at the moment. I think the CEO could be a little more open about certain things. “What I’ve heard again, just the rumors that I’ve heard, is that there may be very, very early preliminary discussions about the possibility of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox.”

As we said before, these are nothing more than rumors that should be taken with a grain of salt. Sony has opened up and released some of its most notable titles on PC in recent years, but the company has generally been careful not to launch on multiple platforms at the same time to avoid internal competition causing sales of PlayStation consoles to decline. However, there is the aforementioned Helldivers 2 which came out simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 5, but we’ll see if this is an exception or a change in policy around the release.

Xbox

The rumor spread by XboxEra is not unfounded because Hiroki Totoki has left the door open to bring more first-party PlayStation games to other platforms as a way to improve declining operating profits. Most interpreted this as a strengthening of the commitment to PC, but others saw an open window towards Xbox.

On the other hand, it cannot be denied that the situation of Xbox and PlayStation is quite different. The fact that the former sells far fewer consoles than the latter has meant that companies like ZeniMax (Bethesda, Arkane Studios and Id Software) have lost millions of customers compared to when they were independent, and very likely Xbox’s diversification into publishers. PlayStation wouldn’t be produced if its consoles dominated the market. Added to this is the fact that What’s working for the Phil Spencer-led division isn’t so much the consoles as the Game Pass servicewhich aims to be a turning point in the way video games are consumed.

We’ll see what happens in the end, but regardless of the companies and whatever happens, it’s clear that the video game industry is experiencing a crisis caused by several factors, one of which is living beyond its means. Added to this are things like large productions that are increasingly difficult to achieve profitability and consumers that cannot cope with so many releases.
