Lenovo introduces a new line of ThinkCentre desktops. The three new computers have AMD’s latest Ryzen Pro 8000 CPUs on board.

Lenovo is launching three new desktop computers in the ThinkCentre series: the ThinkCentre M75t Gen 5, the ThinkCentre M75s Gen 5 and the ThinkCentre M75q Gen 5. The three new PCs have AMD Ryzen Pro 8000 CPUs on board. AMD announced these processors earlier this month.

The AMD Ryzen Pro 8000 series desktop chips are available with NPUs onboard, so you can also configure these Lenovo desktops with the AI chiplet. Lenovo enthusiastically refers to the AI PC label, but in reality it means little. The NPU does not bring that much additional AI computing power for this generation and the total available AI performance remains just below Microsoft’s lower limit to speak of an “AI PC” and to allow Copilot to run (partially) locally in the future. AI-related workloads that already exist today are either too heavy for the CPU-NPU combination or alternatively run on a CPU without an integrated NPU.

Specifications

Aside from the marketing department’s AI hype, there’s something to be excited about with these new Lenovo desktops. First of all, they have modern interior design. You can configure the M75t and M75s with up to an AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 8700G (eight cores, 4.2 GHz base clock). The M75q is a very small box (1.32 kg) and, due to its compact form factor, houses a slightly lighter AMD Ryzen 7 pro 8000GE (eight cores, 3.65 GHz).

Storage is via PCIe SSDs (2TB) and storage can be configured up to 64GB for all new systems. In addition, Lenovo equips the desktops with WiFi 6 and a range of USB ports (Type A and C), HDMI, RJ45 and more. The Lenovo ThinkCentre M75t and M75s support up to four screens, the compact M75q can handle three screens.

Price and availability

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M75t Gen 5 will be available from August 2024 with an expected starting price of 699 euros, the ThinkCentre M75s Gen 5 will be available in June 2024 with a starting price of 699 euros and the ThinkCentre M75q Gen 5 will also be available in June 2024 a recommended retail price from 669 euros. All prices include VAT.
