A new victim has been added to the Google graveyard. Google Podcasts is the latest app that the search giant has decided to discontinue, much to the chagrin of all its users. The company wants people using this app to listen to their favorite podcasts Switch to YouTube Music, combines your entire music and podcast experience in one app. But there are more alternatives.
Google Podcasts first went down in the United States at the beginning of April, and we already know the date the app will stop working in Spain, Latin America, and the rest of the world: We will say goodbye to Google Podcasts on June 24.
If you use Google Podcasts, you can move the podcasts you listen to to another application this way.
Google launched the Google Podcasts app in June 2018, and like other products (how could I forget you Google Reader), Google decided to discontinue it as well. Six years later, users of this podcast listening app are saying goodbye, but all is not lost: it is possible move all our favorite programs to another app.
Google wants this application to be YouTube Music, a Spotify-style music listening service. The idea is to collect everything we listen to in one app; So YouTube Music also allows you to subscribe to podcasts and download episodes of the shows we listen to.
Since Google is forcing us to say goodbye to Google Podcasts, they can at least make the registration process easier for us. Move our podcasts to another app.
In order to do, we follow these steps:
We access Google Podcasts. The app will remind us that it will stop working on June 24th. We press the ” button under this messageExport subscriptions“
From the next screen we can import our podcasts directly to YouTube Music. We press “Export“. If you have not downloaded the YouTube Music app, we recommend that you install it before performing this operation.
The YouTube Music application will open and we will be able to perform subscription transfer Click “Export as…” and confirm on the next screen
That’s it; Your podcast subscriptions have now been moved to YouTube Music. However If you want to use another podcast app, that is also possible. In this case we follow the following steps:
In the image on the right we see the option to transfer subscriptions to the Pocket Casts application.
After clicking “Export subscriptions” in the Google Podcasts app, We select the “Download” option. By doing this we will download an OPML type file that we can take to another application
Next, download a podcast app, there are some really good options (my favorite is Pocket Casts). In the configuration menu of the new application we look for the option that says: Import podcasts anyone Import OPML fileand select the file we downloaded in the Google application
After importing, your favorite podcasts will appear in the new app. It’s a really simple process, so while we may regret having to switch apps and say goodbye to Google Podcasts, at least we have the option to get the latest episode of Loop Infinito, the podcast from our colleagues at Applesfera, or any other podcast . a new application.
