Microsoft is rolling out Microsoft Store ads in the Start menu for all Windows 11 users with a new update.
Microsoft is now starting to show advertisements in the Windows 11 Start menu. The company started rolling out update KB5036980 to all Windows 11 users this week. The ads are primarily recommendations for apps from the Microsoft Store. For non-enthusiasts, the ads can easily be disabled.
The Windows 11 Start Menu ads that Microsoft previously calls “Recommendations” will be available once you download the KB5036980 update. Microsoft experimented with these recommendations two weeks ago, but is now making an official release.
Microsoft says it wants to help Windows 11 users discover new apps developed by a small group of developers.
If you don’t want to receive advertising in the Windows 11 start menu, you can easily deactivate it after installing the KB5036980 update. To do this, go to Institutions and click personal settings. Then you can sink begin turn on the switch for View recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.
