This year, Apple will release iOS 18, which will be the biggest update to the mobile platform in years. iPadOS 18 version of the company’s operating system for tablet computers will not be devoid of interesting innovations. One of them will be the emergence of the “Calculator” program, which for unknown reasons has been in the operating system for 14 years, i.e. Since the launch of the original iPad.

Note that “Calculator” became one of the first programs for the iPhone and has been available to Apple smartphone users since 2007. For unknown reasons, the built-in Calculator has never been on the iPad since the original device was released in 2010. It looks like “Calculator” will replenish the list of missing apps that appeared earlier in iPadOS this year. These are the “Stocks”, “Clock”, “Voice Memos” tools, as well as the “Weather” app, which appears only on the iPad in 2022.

Calculator for iPadOS is expected to be more than just an app ported from iOS or macOS. It looks like Apple plans to update Calculator for macOS 15, adding a timeline to view past calculations, the ability to resize the app window, and redesigning the buttons to mimic the appearance of the keys in Calculator for iOS. Most likely this is the updated app that will appear in iPadOS 18.
