The planned rollout of Google’s alternative to third-party cookies in the second half of 2024 has been postponed.
Google announced its Privacy Sandbox last year, an alternative to cookies in the Chrome browser. The test phase started at the beginning of this year with one percent of users. Now the company is announcing in a blog post that it will delay the rollout due to mixed feedback from the industry, regulators and developers.
Return message
Google said in its blog post that it would not meet the schedule. To this end, they point to the ongoing challenges surrounding feedback from industry, regulators and developers. In addition, the CMA must be given sufficient time to consider the evidence and will receive the results by the end of June.
This new feature is intended to deal with third-party cookies in the Chrome browser. Google has announced that the planned rollout will not be achieved in the second half of 2024.
