The bottlenose dolphin was found on West May Beach in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.
The US government is already investigating the death and has asked the public for information about who may have been involved.
Authorities conducted an autopsy on the body, which revealed several bullets lodged in the dolphin’s body, including in the dolphin’s brain, spinal cord and heart.
Apparently the animal died from injurywhich occurred at or shortly before death.
Harassing, harming, killing, or feeding wild dolphins is prohibited by U.S. law.
Violations can be prosecuted civilly or criminally and are punishable by a fine of up to $100,000 and up to 1 year in prison.
