HMD Puls Pro

HMD announces Pulse, Pulse+ and Pulse Pro. These are the first smartphones that the Finnish company releases under its own brand name, excluding Nokia.

HDM has been known as the “maker of Nokia phones” since 2014 (although it prefers to be called Human Global Devices), but the company now wants to shed that reputation. In keeping with rumors that have been circulating for some time, the company is announcing three new smartphones that do not bear the name of the cult brand. HMD is launching Pulse, Pulse+ and Pulse Pro completely under its own name.

Pulse Pro, Pulse+ and Pulse

The announcement is rather sparse on specifications, but HMD appears to be staying true to its tried-and-tested recipe of affordable and reliable devices without too many bells and whistles. The “top model” Pulse Pro costs just under 180 euros. For this price you get a 50 MP camera on the back, but also on the front. The front camera also has a feature that allows you to take photos hands-free.

Pulse+ and Pulse are even cheaper with a starting price of 160 euros and 140 euros respectively. Both models have 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. The Pulse+ also has a 50MP camera on the back, while the Pulse has a 13MP camera.

Each of the three devices contains 5000 mAh, which HMD says can last up to 59 hours. Charging the battery takes almost as long. The Pulse Pro gets a 20W charger, the Pulse+ and Pulse get a 10W charger.

HMD also emphasizes the repairability of the phones. The screen, charging port, and battery are easily swappable for those with steady hands. In no case does HMD reserve the right to take a repair lightly. The entry-level model is available now, Pulse+ and Pulse Pro will be released at a later and as yet undetermined date.

Without Nokia

We are curious to see whether HDM can do this without Nokia. In any case, the three devices offer an interesting alternative for smartphone users who are satisfied with basic functionalities. A survey by ITdaily among readers shows that fifteen percent do not want to spend more than 200 euros on a new smartphone.

If you think back to Nokia cell phones with nostalgia, you don’t have to worry that HMD wants to make the iconic brand name disappear. The Finnish company had previously stated that the devices it releases under its own name will coexist with Nokia phones. HMD took over the brand name from Microsoft in 2014 and has exclusive rights to use it.
