After two long months of waiting, it is coming Vivaldi 6.7the second version in the year that the web browser is leaving us, and despite the time that has passed, it is not a particularly interesting start, although there is something here and since we fully take into account all its news, this time it will be no less.

Vivaldi 6.7 is based on Chromium 124 and benefits from most of its updates (fixes, optimizations and security patches), although as is common with most derivatives of the open source browser, its appeal lies in its own features. On the contrary, it is not a substantial release or one that brings great news, as is usually the case.

In fact, the most notable of the new features in Vivaldi 6.7 is the enhancement of existing features such as hibernation card backgroundsomething that could already be done manually, but starting with this version can be configured (in “Settings > Tabs > Memory saving”) at certain time intervals: the available options are 1, 2, 3 and 6 hours.

When this feature is activated, cards that have not been used in the specified period will be released from memory, freeing up resources. But they will still be there, ready to be automatically loaded on access. The only exceptions are cards that play audio or video and cards that contain half-filled forms. There is no more. It’s actually the same functionality as Chrome, but with more configuration scope.

Another new feature of Vivaldi 6.7 refers to creating workspaces, a task that now requires fewer steps, as it can be performed both through the context menu of the tabs and with the combination of “Ctrl + click” on Linux and Windows (“⌘ + click” on macOS). Unfortunately, the basic problem with this feature remains: there is no sync that works.

We continue with automatic font detection (RSS, Atom) from the built-in news reader, making it easy to subscribe to sites that don’t clearly offer them, such as YouTube or Reddit. Again, it’s nothing that couldn’t be done already, but you had to know how and now it’s a matter of a few clicks. Additionally, in this version ability to export resources (“Menu > File > Export > Export Fonts…).

On the other hand, the news reader still doesn’t allow you to group feeds by folders or labels, so it remains a very limited useful tool.

In the same way, you can now access a second export option, which is added to the existing ones for bookmarks, reading list and notes: export passwords. However, it is also something that could already be done, you just had to go to the password section in the app settings.

Something similar is happening with the latest development of Vivaldi 6.7, which the official note includes: the split screen support in macOSwhich can be interesting for combining a browser window with other open applications, but which does not contribute much on its own, given that Vivaldi has always made it easy to use windows in tiled mode.

In short, a pretty sad update for Vivaldi in general. At least as far as browsers for PC (Linux, Mac, Windows) are concerned. Let’s see what its mobile version will bring. Hopefully this means they are working on something more consistent and have left it in the meantime.
