No Rest for the Wicked creator advocates early access

On April 18, No Rest for the Wicked was released on Steam. We are talking about a highly anticipated title, as it was presented at the Game Awards 2023, as it had the approval to sign Moon Studios, the Austrian studio that created these two gems that are the two parts of Ori. The game, which, as we told you, was available from day one on GeForce Now, and its technical specifications for online play can be viewed in this publication.

As I remembered a while ago, the game was first shown at the end of last year, but at the time Moon Studios revealed that they have been working on No Rest for the Wicked for almost six years, meaning they started working on its development while they were still finishing Ori and Will of the Wisps. This means that we are talking about a lot of working hours, especially for a study that is not particularly large, since the latest figures in this regard speak of just over 80 workers.

However, despite all the time spent so far, No Rest for the Wicked is still not complete, there is still a lot of development work to be done. And what did Moon Studios do to be able to start promoting it and in this way recoup some of the investment and that revenue allows it to continue development? Well unlock it in early access mode via Steamdecision that was defended by studio executive director Thomas Mahler.

Reviews have been mostly positive, although some players have reported performance issues, which Moon Studios has committed to fixing. Which leads me exactly to remind myself that we are confronted studio that was honest by publishing them in early access mode, that is, it is understandable that these types of problems occur (just as it is understandable that users are pointing this out). After all, we can understand early access as a kind of “mature beta”.

With regard to the development of the gaming market, the head of No Rest for the Wicked not only celebrates the launch of the game in early access mode in his extensive tweet, but also points out that some titles could have benefited from this possibility. in the past and cites Dark Souls as an example and predicts it will become a more common choice for developers in the future. it’s more It’s even running and recommending that Nintendo and Sony adopt this formula on their platforms..

I remembered this a few days ago 7 Days to Die will soon be leaving Early Access after spending over a decade in it and although I understand that this is a somewhat extreme case, I personally prefer it a thousand times over what happened to the disgraceful starts we have suffered in recent years. I don’t know if Thomas Mahler is right when he predicts that this will become a more common pattern, but from what I’ve seen, I hope so.
