Android is an operating system that offers multitasking, background functions, and the ability to work with several applications simultaneously. A formula completely opposite to that of iOS. Interestingly, despite this philosophy of concurrency, there is one challenge that Google has not solved: Parallel downloads from Play Store.

This limitation has been present on Android since its birth, and after some unsuccessful attempts, a change that was a priori small but very relevant has finally arrived: two applications can finally be downloaded to Android at the same time.

Open Google Play Store, list a few apps and you have to wait for them to download one by one. This is the main limitation that Android has had since its birth and has disappeared today. Google already allows Download apps two by twoWhile the first two transactions are completed, leaving the third in the queue.

As our colleagues at Xataka Android have shown, Google Play Store will display two simultaneous downloads in the interface, both in the app store and in the notification bar. This innovation is gradually reaching the Play Store, so you should be able to download multiple applications regardless of the model.

The main limitation remaining concerns updates: these still limited to a single simultaneous downloadSo it will not be possible to update even two applications at the same time.

Competitors such as Apple’s operating system iOS allow three applications to be downloaded at the same time, and updates are also limited to three. It is currently unknown whether the Play Store will allow simultaneous updating of two apps (which would make sense if the system now allows dual installation).
