Trump applauds ‘great job’ by Columbia eviction police

Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump applauded this Wednesday the “great work” of the NYPD in eviction of pro-Palestinian protesters who set up camp at Columbia University.

During a rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the New York tycoon said that “New York is under attack” students who condemned the US policy of supporting Israel in the Gaza war.

He accused the president of Columbia UniversityNemat Shafik, about how he is “very weak” and “waited a long time” to act, but finally the police “did an incredible job” at the entrance to a building where several students lived.

On Tuesday evening, authorities stormed Columbia University’s iconic Hamilton Hall, which had been seized by pro-Palestinian students hours earlier.

The eviction operation from the site, which was also occupied in 1968 to protest the Vietnam War, resulted in the arrest of 282 protesters, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday.

Divestment from corporations linked to Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip is a widespread demand that has mobilized university students across the country, where protests are rapidly growing.

Early this Wednesday morning, Los Angeles police also intervened at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to stop violent clashes between groups of pro-Israel protesters and those demanding an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

Following these clashes, UCLA canceled all classes this Wednesday.
