Anyone who installed this month’s Windows Update may no longer be able to use a VPN. A solution may not come until the next update.

New Windows update, new problems. Microsoft rolled out the monthly security update for Windows 11 and 10 on April 9th. We always have to wait and see what a Windows update brings, and this time it’s about VPN connections. This time no one escapes: Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows Server suffer from VPN problems.

VPN broken

Microsoft acknowledges the problem: ā€œWindows devices may experience failed VPN connections after installing the security update (KB5036893) or the April 2024 Preview Update.ā€ The problem may be resolved in a next update. That could come soon, because Microsoft rolls out a security update for Windows 11 and Windows 10 every first Tuesday of the month.

Do you regularly use VPN connections or does your company use secure VPN connections to connect devices to the company network? Then at this point you seem to have no choice but to uninstall the update again and wait for a solution. Discover how to uninstall Windows Updates after installation in our guide.

Mandatory update

For Windows 11, the April update was more than a security update. The ā€œMoment 5ā€ update also brings new features, including a Copilot button that appears on the right side of the taskbar, improvements to the Snipping Tool app, and expanding voice access to multiple languages. The rather minor update is no longer optional, but mandatory for every user.
