Dell Technologies launches two new PowerProtect devices and integrates AI into its Apex Backup service. Additionally, Dell combines its PowerProtect Data Manager with PowerMax.

Dell is renewing its backup and data protection offering with various innovations. The biggest announcement concerns the introduction of two new devices: the Dell PowerProtect Data Domain DD9410 and the DD9910. Above all, these devices must offer speed gains, both in backups and when needed when restoring data. In addition, the hardware is more efficient. Dell shares some numbers compared to previous versions:

  • Backups are up to 38 percent faster
  • Recovery is up to 44 percent faster
  • The devices use up to 11 percent less energy
  • Deduplication is possible up to a factor of 65

With the PowerProtect Data Domain DD9410 and DD9910, Dell aims to help large organizations efficiently secure large amounts of data. Backup, restore, analysis and more are integrated into the solution’s software.

Backup chatbot

Of course, this announcement also has to have an AI sauce, which is why Dell is introducing the Apex Backup Service AI. This is a chatbot that helps with questions about data protection, but can also quickly create detailed reports. You can also configure backups using generative AI.

Finally, Dell announced that Storage Direct Protection in Dell PowerProtect Data Manager provides native integration with Dell PowerMax enterprise storage for backup and restore to and from PowerProtect Data Domain.

Availability

The Dell PowerProtect Data Domain DD9410 and DD9910 systems are available worldwide, as is Dell APEX Backup Services AI. Storage Direct Protection for PowerMax will be available worldwide in the third quarter of 2024.
