More than 100 thousand migrants covered by the DACA program, known as “dreamers” or “Dreamers,” will be able to gain access for the first time health insurance thanks to a new federal rule announced this Friday by the government of the American President, Joe Biden.

DACA recipients, many of whom are of Mexican descent, are authorized to live, study, and work in the United States and are protected from deportation.

However, until now, they have been unable to access Obamacare health plans because they do not technically meet the requirement of being “lawfully present” in the United States.

The new rule changes the definition of “legal presence” to ensure DACA beneficiaries have access to health insurance.

As stated in White House The announcement estimates that 100,000 DACA recipients will be able to request health insurance through the portal. HealthCare.gov other government portals, and some will be able to access financial assistance.

DACA recipients will be able to begin applying in November.

Although, like most Americans, many DACA recipients obtain health insurance through the companies they work for, it is estimated that more than a quarter of them currently lack health insurance, according to a report last year National Immigration Law Center.

However, this rule does not allow DACA beneficiaries to access Medicaid A health insurance program for Americans with low incomes or disabilities.

The government’s announcement comes amid campaigning for the November election, in which former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) will meet with Biden again and promised to implement tough immigration policies, such as mass deportations, if he returns to the White House.
