A little over three years ago I began a significant change in my exercise, rest and nutrition habits. The first point is simple: take the train. The second can be controlled with a smartwatch, but the third was the most complicated. What should I eat, how much should I eat, how do the amounts change if I receive training or not… After visiting nutritionists and learning the most important tips for preparing meals, I decided to use applications.

Go ahead and in this article I’m just trying to reflect my personal experience with what I think is the most helpful app to help us eat better. This app should in no case replace both nutritionists and the information we all need to know about general nutrition if we want to eat better.

I eat much better since I met Yazio

The app I use on a daily basis is called Yazio and I use the free version. Once you configure it, it will quite persistently invite you to pay for the premium version. It is quite affordable (less than 15 euros per year), gives access to full recipes (in the free one we have access to, but more limited), which is really worth it, and the list of micronutrients we eat. In my case, the most important thing for me is to know the amount of macronutrients and calories I eat, so I don’t need more.

In my experience, the app is more complete and visual than its best-known alternative, MyFitnessPal. It’s simpler, easier to use, and I think the interface makes everything clearer. It doesn’t sound like you’re using such a specific application.

Yazio

Like every nutrition application, it will ask us for a little information: How much we weigh, how much we want to weigh, whether we do sports or not, when we want to reach a certain weight, etc. Once the data is complete (it’s important to be honest) a nutrition plan will be created. One of the keys is that we can vary nutritional goals around five diets:

  • Standard
  • Yazio Diet
  • low carb
  • high protein
  • Low fat

In my experience, these are pretty balanced options. In my case, I follow a relatively low-carb diet as I spend most of the day sitting and only train for an hour a day. The app in no way demonizes carbohydrates and prevents them from forming; on the contrary: the ratio of low-carbohydrate diet is still ideal; It contains slightly more carbohydrates and a balanced amount of fats than proteins (if we consider the latter a bit high). , we can choose the low-fat one).

The application will tell us in a very visual way what the balance of macronutrients and calories is. Likewise, the app syncs with Apple Health and Google Fit. This means that if we have a smartwatch, the calories we burn will be reflected in the app and the parameters will be updated in real time, so we know whether we need to eat more or less.

To have this personal data, we just need to record the meals we eat. It may seem very boring at first, but there is a trick: The application allows us to record the meals we make ourselves. So, if you usually eat a tuna and tomato salad for dinner, you can save the ingredients as a set. You won’t have to choose individual items at your next dinner registry, just choose “salad.”

The app also allows us to log the water we consume, with the detail that the water we drink is already included in our food (something very few apps do). It is also possible to count the hours in a completely personalized way if we practice intermittent fasting.
