Huawei started to squeeze Apple in the tablet market

Canalys experts found that 33.7 million tablets were sold worldwide in the first quarter of this year; This figure is 1% more than the same period last year. According to analysts, 2024 will be a better year for the tablet market than last year, as sales volumes have been declining steadily in the previous four quarters. Huawei company has increased the supply of tablets more than others.

The revival of the tablet market this year is evident from the passion of its participants, who are ready to experiment with the form factors and usage models of these devices. If innovations come from major players in the market, such as Apple’s intention to offer an iPad Pro with an OLED display, second-tier manufacturers are ready to invest in the tablet segment despite the difficulties. Tablet manufacturers, who were not among the top five in the first quarter, not only increased their market share from 20% to 23.6%, but also increased their product delivery volume by 19.1% to 8 million products. According to the results of the first quarter, the entire global tablet market increased its delivery volume by 1% year on year to 33.7 million units.

Apple retained first place with a 35.6% share, but this was well below last year’s 41.8%, and the number of iPads delivered fell 13.9% to 12 million units. In this context, Samsung, which was far behind with 6.8 million tablets, managed to show stability in terms of both a 20.2% market share and a 1.2% increase in tablet shipments.

Huawei, in third place, showed a 70.2% increase in shipments of 2.7 million tablets, mainly at the expense of the domestic market of China and neighboring Asian countries. At the same time, it still holds just over 8.1% of the world market. In fourth place was Chinese Lenovo, which increased its tablet shipments by 12.9% to 2.1 million units, but was limited to 6.3% of the market. The top five includes Amazon, which accounts for 6.1 percent of the global market, but compared to the first quarter of last year, it reduced its tablet shipment volume by 18.2 percent to 2.05 million units. The popularity of Amazon tablets is due to the e-commerce giant’s proprietary infrastructure that focuses heavily on English content.

According to Canalys analysts, in addition to the new iPad Pro with an OLED display, buyers’ interest in tablets this year will increase with various complex models with flexible displays, as well as devices that allow you to view stereoscopic images without special glasses. In the commercial segment, pent-up demand during the pandemic will help. The spread of 5G communication networks in growing markets will increase interest in tablets.
