Lenovo is launching three new servers based on AMD CPUs. The launch includes a diverse portfolio, ranging from an 8U powerhouse to compact boxes that fit four into one chassis.
The ThinkSystem SR685a V3 8GPU is a powerhouse equipped with fourth-generation AMD Epyc servers and eight AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators. Lenovo keeps the server fresh with traditional air cooling and this model also supports Nvidia GPUs. The servers are future-proof because customers will eventually be able to replace their CPU with an unannounced fifth-generation AMD Epyc chip.
With this powerful AI server, Lenovo is primarily thinking about customers in the financial sector, healthcare, transportation and climate science. The ThinkSystem SR685a will be available for on-premise data centers, but will also appear on cloud providers. The device is not small with a size of 8U.
Lenovo is also launching the ThinkAgile MX455 V3 Edge Premier Solution. This system is also based on AMD components, with an AMD Epyc 8004 chip at its heart. This device is part of Lenovo’s Azure Stack offering. The server is 2U in size and must be hosted in edge locations.
Finally, there is the compact Lenovo ThinkSystem SD535 V3. It has a 1S/1U format and houses an AMD Epyc Genoa chip. The focus of this device is to maximize performance per rack. A single chassis can accommodate up to four servers, as shown in the image above.
