Slaxico’s Chief Information Security Specialist, Pavlo Tomenko, warned of the danger of hacking into a number of programs when the VPN is enabled. The expert told GSMinfo the damage that services can do to Ukrainians by circumventing blockades.

The expert advised users not to engage in VPN-enabled services that store personal data. He called such a program e-mail. “It may include logins and passwords from sites, location data, bank card information, customer plans, major purchases,” Tomenko said, adding that free VPNs can collect such information in a database and pass it on to third parties.

The expert also urged to abandon the use of services to bypass locks when logging into online banking, both in the mobile application and in the browser version. Tomenko warned that in this case, users are at greater risk than using email. According to him, attackers can transfer the user via VPN to a fake site, where he will enter his real username and password from the personal account, as a result of which criminals will be able to access the victim’s personal account and steal his money. .

The expert advised not to use the services in order to bypass the bottlenecks when calling a taxi, ordering goods and logging into social network accounts, which often contain a lot of personal information.
