SpaceX’s new space suit was introduced in X and will soon debut on the Polaris Dawn mission, where four astronauts will spend five days orbiting Earth in a Dragon capsule. It will be just the beginning, as Elon Musk’s aerospace company intends to use it on lunar bases and for the future arrival of humans on Mars.

Officially a SpaceX space suit suits for extravehicular activity (EVA)., are intended for the new space missions that humanity undertakes on our satellite and later on Mars. They include integrated cameras and a head-up display (HUD) that will display the pressure, temperature and humidity inside the astronauts’ suit while tracking the amount of time they spend in space.

These EVAs feature 3D printed helmets with polycarbonate visors and an outer copper-indium-tin oxide coating and anti-fog and anti-glare treatment. They use spiral zippers and are made of fire-resistant material. The shoes are made of the same material that was used in the parts of the Dragon capsule, i.e can withstand very high temperatures. We do not see additional backpacks or tanks with additional oxygen in the pictures.

“The final destination of the suit is much further from our home planet”reads the web from SpaceX . “Building a base on the moon and a city on Mars will require developing a scalable design for the millions of spacesuits needed to make life multiplanetary”. This scalable design will allow teams to manufacture and scale to different body types as a company “seeks to make space more accessible to all humanity”.

SpaceX’s space suit will be tested on the Polaris Dawn mission, which houses the Dragon capsule will orbit in the highest Earth orbit ever achieved. The mission will also investigate the impact of radiation on astronaut health, such as decompression sickness and spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome (SANS).

The ascent into space will take up to two hours reaches several milestones. The mission will be the first commercial spacewalk and the first time four crew astronauts will enter the vacuum of space at the same time. The astronauts will also test the Starlink Space internet communication systems in space. As with the suit, the ultimate goal is to use it in future missions to the Moon and Mars.

The Polaris Dawn mission is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2024 and will be the definitive step for commercial space exploration.
