Oracle has announced Oracle Code Assist, an AI code partner that helps developers increase the speed and improve consistency of their code. This tool is optimized for Java, SQL and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) applications. Oracle Code Assist is already used internally by Oracle developers and will be available to Oracle customers in the future.
Context-specific suggestions
Oracle Code Assist is built on large language models (LLMs) running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and is designed to provide context-specific suggestions. The tool is offered as a plug-in for development environments such as JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA and Microsoft Visual Studio Code. Oracle Code Assist helps developers update, upgrade, and refactor code, regardless of programming language.
The AI tool will include a wide range of features, including code suggestions, annotation and understandability, code analysis and speeding up code reviews, according to Oracle. Additionally, it helps with test coverage and automated upgrades while taking into account an organization’s internal libraries and best practices.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Oracle Code Assist is specifically optimized for the Oracle ecosystem and enables developers to apply OCI-specific optimizations and implement best practices for their applications. Arnal Dayaratna, vice president of research at IDC, said this tool can accelerate Java upgrades and refactor and test complex PL/SQL code, which is essential for companies using Java and databases.
Aanand Krishnan, vice president of product management at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, emphasizes the importance of the tool for application development: “Organizations using Oracle Code Assist can help developers increase speed and code consistency to enable long-term maintenance of applications in a secure, strict, and compliant manner.
