The letter “e” in the name indicates the use of a purely electric power plant, and the letter “h” indicates the traditional (plug-free) hybrid system. For Lexus ES three names are registered: ES 350e, ES 500e and ES 350h. The basic electric version will probably have one electric motor, while the top version will have two electric motors. All things considered, the hybrid will be single-wheel drive. Currently, the Lexus ES is equipped with both 2.0- and 2.5-liter pure gasoline engines, as well as a hybrid power plant based on the 2.5-liter engine. However, it is not a fact that such a hybrid system will remain in the new Lexus ES.

Lexus plans to offer all its models with fully electric powertrains by 2023, and the long-term goal is to become a fully electric brand by 2035.
