ASUS ROG Ally X will be the name a new portable console from a Taiwanese manufacturer. And without being a completely new version, it will offer interesting new features based on specific hardware changes that will increase its appeal compared to the original ROG Ally.

A few weeks ago, the first rumors about the development of “Ally 2” or at least about the revision of the first version began to appear on the Internet. Yesterday The Verge informed about the new model and was finally confirmed from the marketing manager of ROG’s high-performance division in the video you can see below. The manager released some details but did not confirm all the changes. We will find out next June 2, when the company will officially present the new console.

ASUS ROG Ally X, news

ASUS will maintain 7 inch IPS display with touch interface, FHD resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate of the original version. It will also use the same SoC, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme from AMD, which, with an eight-core, sixteen-thread CPU and Radeon 780M GPU, made the console the most powerful in its class when it launched.

You really don’t need a much higher hardware level, and it’s worth noting again that the ASUS ROG Ally X will be a vastly improved revision, but not a new generation that would surely come later.

One of the points where the console will improve (and according to the ASUS manager a lot) is autonomy. We already pointed out in our analysis that this was one of the few points for improvement and the company took note of it. The battery will increase its capacity between 30% and 40%, but the executive thinks so the improvement in autonomy will be greater.

Another point mentioned “for improvement” is RAM, although the console already has an estimated 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory. More changes to come M.2 module for storagewhich will go from the current 2230 to a complete 2280, which will favor the installation of better SSDs.

The control system, analog sticks, directional pad, button panel and more will also be checked. And they will definitely be added more ports. “We think about battery and storage, graphics and memory, ports”says an ASUS executive. “Our goal is to include as many of them as possible in a facility like this.”.

ASUS also redesigned the board’s internal design and relocated the microSD slot. Although the company insists the original model has no design flaws, some reviewers have noted microSD cards overheating. Finally, let’s draw attention to another aesthetic change, which many will like, and this is it new black design as an option to the white color of the original.

ASUS will also offer a major software update with Armory Crate SE 1.5 for your portable consoles. Version 1.5 will bring new features including additional tabs to organize games by gaming platform (Steam, Epic, GOG, etc.). It also adds a new favorites tab for pinning games to make them easier to find.

There’s also a new List View and Carousel View, as well as a few new home screen/game launcher customization options. Armory Crate SE 1.5 will also allow users to share game profile templates with other users, including features such as custom button mapping.

Rumors point to a price of $699 and a launch in late 2024, but we have no official confirmation. ASUS will keep the revised version and the original on the market, this one with a certain drop in price. We will learn all the details of the new ASUS ROG Ally X on June 2another great cheerleader for the attractive portable console market.
