Overwhelming majority 143 states out of 193 UN members, today, May 10, we again asked the General Assembly to reconsider the integration Palestine as a full-fledged statea decision for which the Security Council is responsible.

Only nine countries voted against and 25 abstained on the resolution, which was co-sponsored by Spain, Ireland, Norway and Belgiumas well as more than seventy countries.

The resolution approved by the Assembly also grants Palestine new powers beyond its current status as “non-member observer state” and it defines her participation in the General Assembly, but specifies that she will not have voting rights and will not be able to nominate herself as a candidate from organizations of the United Nations system.

US vetoes Palestinian entry

April 18th, The US vetoed the Security Council a resolution that opened the door for Palestine to join as a full member of the United Nations, in which it is now only an observer state.

The resolution was presented by Algeria on behalf of the Arab Group of the United Nations. and received 12 votes in favorcompared to two abstentions (the United Kingdom and Switzerland) and a vote against the United States, which highlighted the isolation of the United States vis-à-vis the majority of the international community.

Even countries that were controversial during previous speeches (eg France, Japan, Korea and Ecuador) They eventually acceded to the Palestinians’ request.
