Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 preview: Attractive but also professional?

The Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 is not a classic business laptop from the Think series, but Lenovo has given the device many typical professional features. We’ll start working with this laptop briefly to answer an important question: does this Yoga behave professionally enough?

The Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 features Windows 11 Pro on its internal SSD. The exterior is kept in simple gray and the bump near the webcam is borrowed from the Lenovo ThinkBook series. The keyboard is also excellent for typing on, on par with the top business notebooks in the Think series. Officially, this Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 is not a professional: the device belongs to Lenovo’s consumer-oriented portfolio. So should you ban the laptop from your business environment? Or does the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 behave professionally enough to sit on your desk?

As mentioned, the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 gives off a professional first impression thanks to its ThinkBook-like design. However, upon closer inspection, you can see a distinctly curved and shiny edge on the lower part of the laptop, while Lenovo does not extend this design to the screen. This looks a bit strange. Who sees an applicant here who is wearing a smart suit but has adorned himself with too many jewels to really look classy? De gustibus et coloribus…. We are not deterred by style prejudices.

Good keyboard, unnecessary keys

Inside we are greeted by a simple gray keyboard and a large touchpad. Both work just as well and pleasantly as a real touchpad. We are fans of the quality, but not the layout.

To the right we find a column of silly buttons that we think get in the way: a speedometer SmartPower to open, a front speaker SmartAudioa button for Eye care fashion This gives you access to a pseudo-scientific blue light filter and a customizable button. There is a welcome fingerprint sensor underneath. In our opinion, these keys do not represent any real added value and to the right of the keyboard they are particularly annoying and distracting.

Top screen

We focus our gaze on the screen and it is breathtaking. A beautiful 4K OLED panel displays deep black levels and vibrant colors. We can’t test the color fastness on our preview model, but the first impression makes us happy. We would quickly forget the shiny edge and the silly additional keys.

If we look at these details for a moment, we see the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1, a device with a beautiful screen and excellent input options that we enjoy working on. The 2-in-1 functionality with the beautiful screen is also useful for those who want to show a presentation, for example, although we think the notebook also likes to handle multimedia.

As far as the software is concerned, we are happy with the choice of Windows 11, but there is a but here too. Lenovo can’t hold back and stops advertising and bloatware on this beautiful laptop. We don’t want McAfee, nor does the DropBox shortcut have a place on the taskbar. We also find links to apps in the start menu that have no place on a new laptop from the factory.

The actual story extends into the context. USB Type-C is present on both sides and we also get a USB Type-A port, but what does the redundant round power port for an old charger do on this USB-C compatible laptop? Finally, we are also annoyed by the on-off button, which is inconveniently placed on the side and not on top of the keyboard, as is now common practice. The included pen is nice.

Inside, we have nothing wrong with this Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1. The device has a terabyte SSD on board, comes with a brand new Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and 16 GB of RAM. We haven’t benchmarked yet, but we’re confident the Yoga will deliver top performance with this hardware.

Not a professional, but good

The Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 is undoubtedly a good notebook, but is it also a business device? From this we can conclude that this notebook belongs to Lenovo’s consumer range. You can use it for business purposes, although several details prevent us from recommending this device in a purely B2B context. Do not you care? Then you get a neat and high-quality device that shows that Lenovo goes above and beyond for consumers too.
