According to network sources, Google is working on the possibility of running the ChromeOS operating system on Pixel smartphones. Presumably, the company believes that the existence of ChromeOS in parallel with Android can significantly expand the options for using mobile gadgets, which can be useful, for example, in a corporate environment.

The report states that Google recently held a closed event and showed off the Pixel 8 smartphone running ChromeOS to attendees. To implement this, the Android Virtualization Framework tool was used, which first appeared in Android 13. This tool allows you to run a virtually isolated environment to install a second operating system.

Frankly, the choice fell on ChromeOS not only because this platform belongs to Google, but also because it is used in much less productive devices than modern smartphones. It is also known that an optimized version of ChromeOS was used during the Google promotion. At the same time, Google representatives did not mention the intention to make this function publicly available. Instead, the company is offering it to third-party smartphone makers as a tool to run Android and ChromeOS on the same device.
